A career in the mining industry was not Plan A. As a young geologist, it seems counterintuitive to what brought me into the field in the first place. Adventure, the great outdoors and travel suited my lifestyle at that time and Exploration was as far down the supply chain as I was willing to consider. However, a chance to work for a junior mining company (FNX Mining Inc.) allowed a glimpse at underground mining and the transition from discovery to extraction and the many avenues a career in the mining industry had to offer. A further transition to a major mining company (KGHM) provided exciting and challenging opportunities to be involved with the technical, business and strategic direction in a larger scale as well as incorporating global travel and relationships. The diversity, challenges, opportunities and growth continue to evolve and provide for a very exciting and rewarding career.
I feel I have the best of all worlds when it comes to my job. I have the luxury of being able to come home and spend quality time with my family, I work in one of the most prolific mining camps in the world, I live in what I consider to be a great city (Sudbury) with lots to offer, and continue to be challenged and inspired by the incredible team I work with. I am proud and grateful for having the opportunity and responsibility to manage the people, projects and operations in Canada on behalf of KGHM in a safe, responsible and positive manner.
In addition to high paying salaries; the chance to use advanced technology, the multiple paths and opportunities within the industry, the dynamic and challenging work environment, the chance for international travel and the long-lasting relationships built are but a few of the benefits to a career in the mining industry. These benefits continue to grow as your career evolves and it is exciting and fast-paced environment that focuses on safety, people and performance.
